This was my very favourite treat as a child. It is quick and simple and freezes beautifully.
Mix together in a large bowl:

Mix together with a wooden spoon (not a mixer). Pour into a greased 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 55 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before flipping the pan over to cool for another 10 minutes or so. Cut into three loaves. To serve, slice and spread a bit of butter. Enjoy!!

- 2 cups sugar
- 3 tsp Poudre Douce
- 1/2 tsp cloves
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
