I thought I would try the "Mrs. Field's" chocolate chip cookie recipe today, which is basically the same as I am used to making with the ingredients in a slightly different order. (i.e. the sugar first and then the butter)
Somehow, making a quick batch of cookies wound up taking me an hour. It went something like this:
The verdict: worth it all!

Somehow, making a quick batch of cookies wound up taking me an hour. It went something like this:
- Decide to make cookies
- Have breakfast, make coffee, take the dog for a walk... oh yeah, I was going to make cookies
- Feel like making chocolate chip cookies, so Google "Mrs. Field's"
- Look in the cupboard for flour... not enough... go downstairs and pull out the jumbo-Costco size bag of flour and fill up the cannister
- Go back upstairs, drink my partially cold coffee
- Get out rest of the ingredients, start mixing the flour, baking soda, and salt
- Run outside to get my dog away from the dead bird my children have just told me about
- Come back inside, sanitize my hands and have a little private gross-out shudder
- Drink more coffee; wash my hands again
- Mix the sugars (really? sugar first? okay). Add the butter, eggs, and vanilla and beat.
- Realize that my mixer is on its last legs. Make a note to research new mixers. Think about whether I could put this on my Christmas list. Start thinking about Christmas.
- Add the flour and chocolate chips. Determine that I need to find a new hiding spot for the chocolate chips to keep them from my husband who has late-night snack attacks
- Use an ice cream scoop to spoon the cookie dough onto the baking sheets (covered with awesome liners so I don't have to spend another hour scrubbing). Take credit for the idea of using the ice cream scoop when my daughter tells me what a smart idea it is.
- Wash my hands yet again. Decide to paint my nails later today; maybe I can even squeeze in a manicure. Is anyone open on Labour Day?
- Pop the cookies in the oven. Fill the sink with soap & water to clean up. Decide to write blog instead.
- Oven dings - pour myself another cup of coffee and test out the cookies.
The verdict: worth it all!
